The Truth About Page Rank?

About a week or so ago, a member of my last SEO Intensive Class sent this a PDF report on Page Rank to the group. No hype, no bullshit, just a very well written report on the findings of a study they did on Page Rank.

I was actually floored because for ONE, I don’t ever see other people testing things and if they do, they tend not to share the results, and TWO, that I agree with everything they reported and have been spounting it for years.

I even yelled at the audiance when I spoke at Yaniks Underground that the biggest myth in seo was that “Content was King” cause it ain’t! And of course everyone looked at me like I had 5 heads. lol

Well, without getting into all the details of the report, which I hope you download and read, here are the bullets to the myth breaking findings.

  • Google doesn’t care about the “freshness” of your content.
  • Google doesn’t care about the “quality” of your content.
  • Google doesn’t care if you change the contents of a page
  • Google doesn’t care about duplicate content
  • Google doesn’t care if you change registrars or owners of a domain
  • Google doesn’t care if you change hosting providers and / or servers

What does Google care about, and what is KING in the SEO world is… links, and ONLY links.

Now with that being said. I want you to note that this report is on Page Rank, and not SE rankings. For ranking, I do believe in the “freshness” of LINKs and lot’s of them. πŸ™‚

Click the report to download and read. It is short and to the point. Let me know what you think. And thanks to Internet Marketing Blueprint for the report, you just made a new fan! πŸ™‚

  2. Nice Information on the page rank mate…I think thats google gives page rank based on the number of visits or traffic to a website.

  3. Yes i would agree with it , in mine concept there is nothing in new links and we only care about the content in it and we only look at the content we want. here i like use this proverb “all that giltters is not gold”

  4. Well, this actually makes sense if you look at the definition of page rank, which is supposed to be something like the probability that a user will reach that page by clicking randomly on ranks. So essentially, page rank is to a great degree pointless, and SE rankings tell much more, and are much more valuable to most users.

  5. This article was very interesting to read. I have noticed this with a forum that I run. My content was always fresh, 1500+ new articles a day being posted by members. Some had quality, some did not. Because its a forum, content is often duplicated. I tried to optimized as much as I could and never saw an affect on the pagerank. I did find that taking my time and focusing on links is what really made the difference. As I lost links to my site, I lost pagerank.

I highly agree that even though it does not really affect your pagerank, do not give up on these things. I stopped focusing so hard on my pagerank and just focused on SEO. As I did that, I ended up on the front page of every search engine for some big keywords. Content still is king!

  6. Wow, all I’ve ever heard is that content is king and that freshness counts. I guess the basics are true: it’s about links, links, links.

  7. I thought it’s content that matters, but your article and the attached ‘pdf’ has made me understand the importance of links to build page rank. A blend of links with suitable content will definitely do wonders.
    Thanks for this interesting post.

  8. This has been the most informative article i have read in a while now. Starting a new site in itself is good amount of work, but taking care of the links and SEO is another. Page ranking does make a world of difference bringing in organic traffic to your site, I for one have been struggling to get my websites pagerank up from past 2 months and this article has given me a number of things that i can implement.

  9. Yes, i agree that Google doesn’t care about anything. It always do new experiments with SEO. for eg – Google does not show any importance to metatags in other websites, it only do searches for web contents or words through their search engine.

  10. Yes, so very true. Whats important is not what is on the website but rather how are they linked i.e., the traffic they generate through the links , keywords, their submission to various social bookmarking sites. but again the contents too matter as keywords trafficing is very specific to keywords existing in the website contents.

  11. The article was very good, i learnt a lot of important points and as you say ” Content is the King” is what i was thinking till today, untill i went through thereport. very useful, can you help me in developing the PR of my blogs?

  12. This was an interesting article. I do agree that Google does not care about the content quality or freshness. This should make people rethink about how page ranking works.

  13. It is a very good article and I agree with it. I learnt that page rank is for a great extent meaningless, but the SEO do much more. I was not caring for it and I used to open the link and care the content in it. thank you for making me aware of SEO

  14. I work at a job that relies heavily on your ability to find things with Google. Links are important, but I really find that page headers make life a great deal easier for me. I search based on what I think the headers may contain, and Google pulls it up almost always without fail. search tags and key words do help, but not when you need to find one unique page out there with the specific information you are looking for. The main instance where i can see links being VERY important is when searching for product manuals. Since manuals and whatnot are usually saved in PDF, throwing in a search for what you are looking for with the extension is going to pull up the most likely result you are looking for. Mostly because the doc is not html. Good read there.

  15. Very useful article. I own a website and like everyone else I am trying attract more traffic to it. It is a hard task until you get there on the top of the search. Google really does not care about page content etc. It is all about money, they do not have time to check every single page content. Very good tip, I hope I can use this info here and others to improve my website.

  16. That’s really interesting ! I’ve actually never thought about this before. But page ranks are really quite useless and the system is unfair. Another idea is if your content is good, there would be more sites that link to that site. It’s just a quality and quantity thing.

  17. Very interesting. The higher a Web site ranks in the results of a search, the greater the chance that that site will be visited by a user

  18. I could not believe your findings on google.Cannot believe they are not looking into duplicate contents and all matters to them is links.I being a new to blogging world, was a bit unprepared to hear these truths.
But it was a nice article on page rank.
    Well done :)…

  19. I’m with Lauren, quality over quantity. I know I come across a website more often by hanging around similar websites that link back to it. Links, links, links is a good way to put it, which explains the importance of link exchanges, I suppose.

  20. Wow! I have been studying SEO methods and have been getting hit with CONTENT over and over — but I always knew links were bigger than some people realize. Thanks for clearing this up!

  21. Nice article regarding page rank. I agree that page rank is not so important. According to me most important thing is the quality of your text.

  22. This post gives some useful information regarding page rank. I think that Google gives rank depending upon the traffic – number of visits on the site.

  23. This is a good honest report. It is true that Google ranking is based only on links. This is the reason some people even pay you if you click their web site via Google.

  24. I must say that it is very dissapointing, the lengths people will go to just to advertise their business. I have seen many sites where people are paid to click on certain ads or webpages, and even double or triple posted links on search engines. The ranking system is completely and utterly unfair for those who try to do things the ethical and honest way.

  25. i really happy and interesting about this article. it will give good information to peoples. The higher a Web site ranks in the results of a search, the greater the chance that that site will be visited by a user

  26. We always used to consider the Google the king of the searches we do.. that were the strange facts to know..
It is the high time we try looking at other huge engines like “Bing.com”

  27. Until Google have humans actually reading all site content they will relay on links to rank sites. But at present, once people find your site, you still need decent content to keep them long enough for them to maybe click on the links on your site (bounce rate).

  28. This is a great article that hit it on the head. People must realize that CONTENT is basically good for putting your Affiliate or Domain link in the resource box at the end . This does derive some income but it takes many articles.
LINKS is the game. There are some good software programs out there but you need to not overdue it with too many at one time lest Google could ban you. I teach also that linking is KING.

  29. Earning from a website is more than just one thing. Its a sum of parts. Pagerank is pointless measurement in website ranking. Its a measurement of inbound linking status thats just one part of the algorithm. What if you have a poor product or poor web design navigation, the whole ranking position then is not proving its worth. Aim for lots of links, varied links and quite a few from Authority themed sites and you wont go wrong. Beg, borrow or steal links!
